STOCKINGS
We peered into the nest in the tree to see if the elves (Mum) had left two golden chocolate eggs for our good behaviour - the last two for this festive season. Of course they were there, glistening under the lights of the tree. Kitty Cat came smooching around us as we emptied our stockings. We each gave her a cuddle and then went outside to wish our dog, Griffin, a Merry Christmas. He was playing with his favourite piece of deer hide. I wondered if he had smelt the reindeer, but I didn’t remember hearing him bark.
PRESENTS
All the gasps and giggling must have woken Mum and Dad, because they soon came into the lounge. That was our cue to start opening the presents. The sun started to rise. It was going to be a beautiful day.
Mum asked me if I could dash down to the woolshed to grab some eggs from the fridge. “Yay! Poached eggs on toast for breakfast”, I squealed.
THE BEST PRESENT OF ALL
I grabbed a carton and took off to the woolshed. The bees were already busy buzzing in the flowers by the gate. When I got through the gate, I notice the woolshed door slightly ajar. I tiptoed up the ramp and quietly pulled the door open. I couldn’t believe my eyes. There, in the half-filled wool bales, lay Santa and his reindeer. Rudolph's shiny red nose really glowed in the dark of the woolshed. BANG! A gust of wind slammed the door behind me. They all woke in fright. I had a lot of eyes staring at me.
“What time is it? Who are you”? Santa asked me.
“Hi, I’m Daniel. Is that really you Santa?”
“Yes I’m Santa. I thought we’d just take a quick nap in this warm, soft wool, before the long journey ahead. Would you like a bell off Rudolph’s antler?”
“YES PLEASE!” I squealed with joy.

I helped Santa assemble his sleigh and reindeer. He gave me a bell as a memento. So the reindeer could get a good run-up and take-off, I opened the double doors at the end of the woolshed. I applied some sunblock to Santa’s nose and cheeks to protect him from the summer sun. Of course, I cuddled all the reindeer and kissed Rudolph on the nose, then set them on their way.
“Ho, ho, ho!”, said Santa as zoomed out the doors into the light of the day.
BREAKFAST
Clutching the little bell, I carefully filled the carton with eggs and ran back to the house.
“What’s happened to your nose, Dan?” asked Jess.
Mum and Dad turned to look at me too. In my excitement I hadn’t noticed the bright red glow coming from my nose.
“Oh, ah, I just kissed Rudolph in the woolshed”, I exclaimed, knowing they wouldn’t believe me.
I placed the eggs on the kitchen bench and went to the tree to hang the bell on a branch. As I let it go from my hand, my nose stopped glowing. I thought to myself that maybe it was a magic bell and that it might give me the power to fly. But I was not going to let anyone know about that, so joined them for breakfast and the rest of Christmas Day with family and friends.
NIGHT FLIGHT
That night, when everyone was asleep, I crept down to the tree and clasped the bell. Immediately, my nose lit up. I crept outside and climbed on to the deck railing. I started jumping to see if I took flight. My toes tingled when I jumped on the third try, so I launched myself off the railing and gracefully started flying. When I looked down, my toes were sparkling. I gasped with joy. I felt like Peter Pan. I started flying around the farm, then Dad’s farm dogs started barking at me so I quickly flew back home before Dad awoke and started throwing rocks up on the roof to quieten those naughty dogs. I went back inside, put the special bell back on the tree and went to bed knowing that Santa was real. I believe in Santa and no one would ever change my mind about that.
